They read your e-mail and filter out probable spam based on its contents, who the sender is, or on sets of rules that you have to maintain. In all, 60% to 80% of spam is blocked, and some of your real mail gets inappropriately redirected too.

SpamLion tracks the e-mail addresses that are important to you by automatically creating a white list - learning who you send mail to, and allowing their messages to flow through freely. Only a first contact (from an unknown source that has never exchanged email with you before) is required to complete the simple SpamLion ^TM validation process.

Bulk unsolicited commercial e-mail (spam, or UCE) is sent through automated systems that are not be able to respond to a SpamLion registration request (the validation process). Simple put, when inbound e-mail is from an un-validated source (you've never communicated with them and they haven't validated), then you are not bothered by them.

SpamLion has simple management tools to adjust the registration process and manually register newsletters or other automated mail that you do want to receive, such as receipts from an online merchant you trust.
